Okay, so I'm pretty much over my facebook rant of last time. I think it was just overloaded with the same kinds of questionable behavior. I am enjoying visiting the photosharing sites recommended by the 23things site. I'm also hating my internet provider just a little bit as I keep getting dropped before I have a chance to really get started. Oh well, another day perhaps. Nothing further to report here. Until the next time.

Week 2: Online communities in review
As the second part of my lesson in 23thingskansas, I've been dilligently reviewing online communities. I've been a longtime Facebook user and have found over the years that it is a mixed bag of good and bad. I can quickly communicate with people I haven't seen in years, be invited to all sorts of events and even play games with/against them. But also it is a place where people frequently overshare personal information, sometimes to the point of discomfort. And I know it's an easy thing to do. I find myself sometimes tempted to share the details of the lousy day I had or the argument I had with whoever. But viewed in a professional setting it's difficult to separate our lives and our jobs sometimes anyway leaving me to err on the side of caution with the information I share. As I think should more people.
I've also discovered that some of these social network have a very different view of what these networks are best used for. I find some sites are more than I want to deal with, simply because so many people treat them like dating sites. I'm not looking for a date in a movie group...not necessarily anyway. I'm much more likely looking for new movies summaries and reviews. Also, I don't know why I should have to be subjected to some people's colorful and often inappropriate pick-up lines as comments on my Facebook page and the pages of people whom I often converse. Maybe their sense of humor is just very different than mine. But when the content is photographic, I'm certain I didn't miss the meaning.
Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks good judgement should still exist, even on the internet. And not because I have no sense of humor but just because I wouldn't want to apply for a job and be judged on the photo of some stranger's cleavage posted in response to my college French tutor's comments.

Week One: Blogging
Hi everyone!
My name is Tonya Merrill and I can currently a library aide at the Frank Carlson Library in Concordia. For a long time now, I have thought about writing a blog but have been really unsure how to get started. And then out of the blue, library to the rescue. I was very happy that this program came along. Better still, is the fact that I kinda got to preview what the other platforms looked like before I chose one. I'm a big fan of the idea of trying things on in life and making sure they are going to fit properly.
So here I am. I'm an avid reader of all different kinds of things, am current book leader for the library's fantasy book group, and being a ravenous fan of movies sometimes host movie days at the library. In my sometimes existent spare time, I like to bake, craft assorted things, and play with my vastly spoiled cats. I am also a wanna-be fashionista and amateur clothes horse, have a strong interest in theatre and astronomy and lately a growing interest in local history.
Well, that's it for now. I'm off to conquer more fields yet unknown. I'll report back later on my progress. Random fonts of information at random.
